As Tucson braces for its notorious summer thunderstorm season, the City of Tucson Department of Transportation and Mobility (DTM) is launching Operation Splash 2025.

Starting June 4, crews will stage barricades at dip crossings citywide to protect travelers from flood risks.

Operation Splash: A Decade of Community Support

For the tenth year running, DTM is offering free self-serve sandbags to residents at Hi Corbett Field in Reid Park.

This program has distributed over 202,000 sandbags since its inception in 2016, highlighting a sustained effort to mitigate flood impacts on local communities.

Residents are encouraged to bring their own shovels and can collect up to ten sandbags per vehicle.

What This Means for Local Residents

  • Access free sandbags at Hi Corbett Field to protect your property.
  • Expect road closures at dip crossings during heavy rains.
  • Stay informed via DTM’s social media for real-time updates.
  • Be prepared for potential disruptions in daily commutes.

Climate Effects on Local Businesses

While road closures may temporarily disrupt access to businesses, the city’s swift response aims to minimize long-term impacts.

By ensuring roads are quickly cleared post-flooding, Tucson helps maintain business continuity and reduces potential economic losses.

Moving Forward

As Tucson navigates another monsoon season, Operation Splash stands as a testament to the city’s dedication to public safety and community resilience.

By staying informed and prepared, residents can help ensure a safer experience during these unpredictable weather events.
