The City of Tucson is calling on residents to provide feedback on the draft “People, Communities, and Homes Investment Plan” (P-CHIP).
This vital plan will guide the Housing and Community Development (HCD) department’s efforts over the next five years, addressing issues like affordable housing, homelessness, and community safety.
Community Engagement for a Better Tucson
The draft plan, now in its second edition, reflects the City’s ongoing commitment to addressing critical housing challenges. Residents are invited to participate in shaping the final plan by sharing their insights and suggestions.
Components of the P-CHIP plan include:
- Housing First program: A successful initiative providing outreach, emergency shelter, and supportive housing to over 1,000 Tucsonans each year.
- Housing Choice Voucher program: Recently reopened, offering low-income residents access to rental subsidies.
- El Pueblo Housing Development: A non-profit arm that has 1,200 affordable housing units in progress.
Addressing New Challenges
Despite significant progress since the first P-CHIP in 2020, Tucson faces unprecedented challenges, including rising rents, the opioid crisis, and an increase in homelessness.
The updated P-CHIP outlines HCD’s approach to tackling these issues through direct action, community grantmaking, and collaboration with various stakeholders.
