This February, Tucson’s Thrive in the 05 area will take center stage during the city’s world-renowned Gem, Mineral, and Fossil Showcase.

From February 1-16, local businesses and venues in this historic district will host the Passport to Adventure Giveaway, offering visitors the chance to win incredible prizes while experiencing the vibrant local culture.

What Is the Passport to Adventure Giveaway?

The Passport to Adventure Giveaway is a community-focused promotion designed to draw visitors to Thrive in the 05, a dynamic area encompassing the Miracle Mile and Oracle Road corridors. The event encourages residents and tourists alike to explore the unique shops, restaurants, and attractions in the district.

Participants can enter the giveaway by scanning QR codes displayed at participating businesses. Each visit to a unique venue earns an entry, with prizes that include:

  • A weekend for two at JW Marriott Starr Pass Resort, complete with breakfast and spa treatments.
  • A $50 gift certificate to Monterey Court Café, one of Tucson’s favorite local dining and music venues.

The giveaway not only offers enticing rewards but also promotes local businesses during one of Tucson’s busiest seasons. Winners will be notified via email after the promotion concludes on February 16.

Why Thrive in the 05?

Thrive in the 05 is an initiative that aims to revitalize Tucson’s historic 85705 zip code through community-driven programs. These efforts focus on reducing crime, fostering economic growth, and transforming neighborhoods into thriving hubs of activity.

This area, once famous for its mid-century motels and tourism boom, is experiencing a revival. Visitors today can find everything from gem and mineral shops to cultural landmarks and family-owned eateries.

According to Barbra Coffee, Director of Economic Initiatives for the City of Tucson,

“This promotion is an exciting opportunity to shine a spotlight on the many diverse businesses and attractions in Thrive in the 05.”

Explore Tucson’s Mineral and Fossil District

The Passport to Adventure Giveaway coincides with the Tucson Gem, Mineral, and Fossil Showcase, which attracts thousands of visitors annually.

Thrive in the 05 is home to the city’s Mineral and Fossil District, a year-round destination for gem enthusiasts and collectors.

Visitors can explore:

  • Gem and Mineral Shops: Rare finds from local and international dealers.
  • Cafés and Restaurants: A variety of dining experiences, from comfort food to unique culinary offerings.
  • Live Music and Entertainment: Venues like Monterey Court provide a mix of food, culture, and performances.

A Rich History with a Bright Future

The Oracle and Miracle Mile corridors are steeped in history. Once a bustling gateway to Tucson, this area thrived during the mid-20th century before experiencing a period of decline.

Recent revitalization efforts under Thrive in the 05 have reinvigorated the district, bringing safety, sustainability, and opportunity back to the community.

Through partnerships with organizations like Pima Community College and the City of Tucson’s Housing and Community Development department, Thrive in the 05 is creating a brighter future for the area. Initiatives like the Passport to Adventure Giveaway build on this progress by celebrating local businesses and fostering community engagement.
